Kenji Kohiyama:
“Mobile communication and place”
Kenji Kohiyama graduated from Keio University and joined NTT in 1967. Since then, he has been engaged in the research and development of various radio communication systems, including mobile communication technologies. From 1992 to 1996, he was Senior Executive Manager of NTT Wireless Systems Laboratories. He re-joined Keio University in 1997 and is currently Professor at Keio’s Graduate School of Media and Governance as well as head of its Docomo House research center where he is studying the social impact of wearable environmental media. In his article, Kohiyama speaks of the cell phone as an omnipresent gateway to the virtual world which will change people’s notion of place profoundly.
